A PERMANENT EXHIBITION
Housed in the former stables of Hériot Castle, the Renoir Cultural Centre presents a permanent exhibition dedicated to the life of one of France’s most famous and beloved painters : Auguste Renoir.
A gallery, with themed sections, offers a deeper understanding of the life of this multi-faceted family of artists : Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s early years at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and his involvement in the birth of Impressionism alongside Claude Monet ; the cinema of Jean Renoir ; portraits and still lifes inspired by the painter’s daily life. These works are now displayed in major collections, from the Musée d’Orsay to the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, and the Musée Picasso in Paris.
AN AUDIOVISUAL SHOW
A short film, available in French or English, will allow you to discover the influence of Essoyes on the painter’s works, as well as the artistic lineage between him and his sons : Pierre, the actor, Jean, the filmmaker, and Claude, the ceramist.
This film, which explores the creative process of the Renoirs, provides the keys to understanding the light, landscapes, lifestyle, and all the sources of inspiration that nourished this family of artists. It highlights, not without evoking strong emotions, how for the Renoirs, “The World is One,” filled with colors and vibrations.
